What Practice Test 6 covers

Practice Test 6 opens the harder half of the bank. Its themes are interpreting linear models, recognizing equivalent algebraic expressions, triangle similarity, and ratio-and-proportion reasoning. Similar triangles have proportional corresponding sides, so AB/DE = BC/EF.

The scale factor from ABC to DEF is DE/AB = 9/6 = 3/2.

Multiply the known side by the scale factor: EF = BC · (3/2) = 8 · (3/2).

Compute: 8 · 3 / 2 = 24 / 2 = 12.

What does "equivalent expressions" actually mean on the SAT?

It means two expressions that produce the same value for every input, even though they are written differently. The test wants you to expand, factor, or combine terms to prove the match rather than to plug in numbers.

How do I know when two triangles are similar?

They are similar if their angles match (AA), or if their corresponding sides are all in the same ratio. Once similarity is established, every pair of corresponding sides shares one scale factor.

Why is Practice Test 6 noticeably harder?

It begins the advanced half of the bank, so the easy-question cushion is smaller and more questions require a setup step before any computation. A dip in score here is expected.

What is the key to ratio and proportion questions?

Consistency of order. Decide which quantity is the numerator and which is the denominator, then hold that arrangement for the entire problem so corresponding parts always line up.
