How the Digital SAT Math section is organized
The Digital SAT Math section divides its content into four domains, each testing a distinct skill set. Algebra and Advanced Math are the largest — about 35% each — so building fluency in linear equations and quadratics gives you the biggest score lift. Geometry & Trigonometry and Data & Statistics each make up roughly 15%. Knowing the weighting helps you prioritize study time: master the big two first, then round out with the smaller domains.

The four content domains explained
Algebra
~35%Linear equations in one and two variables, systems of equations, linear inequalities, and interpreting slope and intercept in context. The largest domain — and the foundation for everything else.
Advanced Math
~35%Quadratics, polynomials, exponential functions, rational expressions, and nonlinear systems. Factoring and the quadratic formula appear on nearly every test.
Geometry & Trigonometry
~15%Area, volume, angle relationships, triangles, right-triangle trig (SOH-CAH-TOA), and circles. Memorize 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangle ratios — they are not on the reference sheet.
Data & Statistics
~15%Ratios, rates, percentages, probability, mean and median, and reading graphs and two-way tables. Often the most accessible questions once you slow down and read carefully.
How to study by topic

Start with your weakest domain
If you have taken a practice test, check your score report to see where most mistakes cluster. Fix one domain at a time rather than spreading effort thin across all four.

Read the study guide first
Each topic page covers the concepts, formulas, and strategy. Skim it before drilling questions so you know what you are looking for in each problem.

Drill untimed, then add the clock
Practice a topic without time pressure first so you can think through the setup. Once you get most questions right untimed, switch to the timed Practice mode to build speed.

Review every miss
Read the explanation, then redo the problem yourself without looking. A question you got wrong once is worth three you have never seen.

Confirm with a full test
After drilling a topic, take a practice test to see whether the fix holds under time pressure and mixed question types.
Frequently asked questions
Which topic should I study first?
Start with Algebra if you are building from scratch, or with your weakest domain if you have already taken a practice test. Algebra and Advanced Math are the largest, so fixing those has the biggest score impact.
Do I need to memorize all the formulas?
The Digital SAT provides a reference sheet with area, volume, and basic geometry formulas. But the test does not give you the quadratic formula, special triangle ratios, or algebraic shortcuts — those you must know cold. Use the Formula Sheet to drill them until they are automatic.
How long should I spend on each topic?
Quality beats volume. One focused hour per topic per week, with full review of every missed question, is more effective than back-to-back drilling with no reflection. Spread your study over several weeks rather than cramming one domain in a weekend.
Should I study topics in order?
Algebra is the foundation, so start there if you are new to SAT Math. After that, prioritize based on your weak spots from a practice test. The domains are tested together on the real exam, so you will need all four eventually.
